Photonics scientists at the University of California, San Diego claim they have effectively deciphered data after it voyaged 12,000km through fiber optic links outfitted just with standard amplifier. The work is said to viably take out the requirement for regenerators along the fiber link.
“With fiber optics, after a certain point, the more power you add to the signal, the more bending you get; essentially keeping a more extended reach. Our methodology evacuates this energy limit which, thus, broadens how far signals can go without requiring a repeater,” said Nikola Alic, a Qualcomm Institute researcher and one of the pioneers of the exploration
