Introducing Eclypse Z7: Zynq-7000 SoC Development Board

Eclypse Z7

Eclypse Z7

The Eclypse Z7 is specifically designed to enable the rapid prototyping and development of embedded measurement systems. Featuring high-speed Zmod ports for modular expansion and a Xilinx Zynq®-7020 SoC, the Eclypse Z7 is fast and flexible, reducing the time it takes for engineers and researchers to develop innovative and powerful new high-speed instrumentation, control, and measurement systems for edge-computing, medical, and communications applications.

To create and modify designs for your Eclypse Z7, you can use Xilinx’s Vivado Design Suite. Vivado is software designed for the synthesis, implementation, and analysis of HDL designs. The Eclypse Z7 is supported by the free WebPACK edition.

You can use Xilinx’s PetaLinux Tools to customize, build, and deploy Embedded Linux solutions on the Zynq-7000.

Xilinx SDK enables development of embedded software applications targeting Xilinx SoC devices, such as the Zynq-7000.

Note: Xilinx software tools are not available for download in some countries. Prior to purchasing the Eclypse Z7, please check the supporting software’s availability, as it is required for the board’s use.

You can buy separately and protect your investment and give your hardware a sleek, professional appearance with the Eclypse Z7 Enclosure Kit. Machined from black anodized aluminum, the Eclypse Z7 Enclosure Kit provides a sturdy housing for your Eclypse platform hardware.

The front panel of the enclosure provides a power switch and fan as well as access to the Eclypse Z7’s status LEDs, power supply connection, microSD card slot, and OTG, JTAG, UART, and Ethernet connections. The rear panel exposes connections to the four SMA connectors of two Zmods installed on the Eclypse Z7 board and the board’s 2×6 Pmod connectors. Assembly is required; directions can be found here.

Zmod Expansion Modules

Digilent Zmods are SYZYGY-compliant expansion modules. SYZYGY is a high-speed I/O expansion standard, developed by Opal Kelly, for FPGA boards intended to fit between the Pmod standard and FMC. By standardizing the hardware interface, SYZYGY modules makes it easier for developers to design and integrate FPGA-based systems with a wide range of peripherals and sensors. The SYZYGY standard offers a much higher speed/bandwidth digital interface than Pmod but at a much smaller and lower-cost form-factor than FMC, enabling the user to configure an FPGA development board with the right I/O for their application. When coupled to a base board using SYZYGY expansion (like the Eclypse or Genesys ZU), the combination will serve as a powerful prototyping platform for instrumentation, high-speed control and SDR products.

One of the great things about Zmods is their flexibility. With a range of options for processing power, memory, and connectivity, you can customize your Zmod to meet the specific needs of your application. Our Zmods are designed to be versatile and easy-to-use, with plug-and-play compatibility and comprehensive tutorials and support. All Digilent Zmods are supported by custom controllers targeting 7-Series FPGA fabric, provided as IP for Xilinx’s Vivado development environment.

We offer a wide range of Zmods to choose from, including modules for ADC, AWG, digitizer, and SDR with various options to choose from. With such a broad selection, you’re sure to find the Zmod that meets your specific project needs.

Whether you’re a student, hobbyist, or professional, our Zmods are perfect for a wide range of applications. You can use Zmods for everything from robotics and automation to data acquisition and signal processing.

When you buy a Zmod from Digilent, you can trust that you’re getting a high-quality product from a trusted brand. We’re committed to providing our customers with the best possible experience, whether you’re a student just starting out or a seasoned professional.

Zmod SDR

The new Digilent Zmod SDR is a digitizer designed for software-defined radio and RF applications. It is a SYZYGY™-compatible pod containing a dual-channel ADC and the associated front end. The Zmod SDR is intended to be used with any SYZYGY™ compatible carrier board. It features a wide input bandwidth, allowing for under-sampling applications – capturing signals with frequencies much higher than the baseline 122.88 MS/s sample rate’s associated Nyquist frequency. An on-board low-jitter clock generator and low-noise design provide the precision necessary to capture fast radio signals. When paired with an Eclypse Z7 host board, the Zmod is supported in GNU Radio, providing a convenient and familiar interface for SDR experts and researchers.
