RTS researches from United Kingdom has demonstrated the first ever practical Laser technology that has been grown directly on Silicon substrate this was continued to fill the gap in in Science from passing data between chips using simple conventional electricals interconnections and thus was more difficult.

A solution was to be used instead of copper in the shape to integrate the functionality of silicon as both group was funded by EPSRC  and led by Cardiff University repeaters
